Week Two: Online Communities

I chose Facebook because I have had a personal account for about a year. I like Facebook for the same reasons most people do. It is fun to find old friends that I have lost contact with. I also enjoy posting and seeing pictures. Sometimes it is nice to receive a message from one of the groups I belong to or the businesses I follow. I especially enjoy reading my friends' posts and updating my status.

I don't see my district allowing students to access Facebook while at school. However, I have been thinking that maybe I could have an account for the library that I use at home. It would be a great way to connect with kids about books outside the school.

Does anyone currently have a school library Facebook account? If so, how do you use it, and does your district allow you to access it while at work?

You can find me on Facebook as Karla Engelland Hawver

  1. Great job blogging so far! I just heard of a school history/lit teacher using Goodreads, actually, to connect with kids both inside & outside of school. She said that they wrote more reactions to the books they were reading and that it was much easier to keep track of everybody's stuff than when she was having them hand-write everything in notebooks. Sometimes technology can be very helpful in the classroom!
