Week Two: Online Communities

I chose Facebook because I have had a personal account for about a year. I like Facebook for the same reasons most people do. It is fun to find old friends that I have lost contact with. I also enjoy posting and seeing pictures. Sometimes it is nice to receive a message from one of the groups I belong to or the businesses I follow. I especially enjoy reading my friends' posts and updating my status.

I don't see my district allowing students to access Facebook while at school. However, I have been thinking that maybe I could have an account for the library that I use at home. It would be a great way to connect with kids about books outside the school.

Does anyone currently have a school library Facebook account? If so, how do you use it, and does your district allow you to access it while at work?

Week One: Blogging

Hi! I'm Karla, and I am a Library Media Specialist at Reno Valley Middle School, a school within the Nickerson school district. My building houses 7th and 8th grades, which is about 165 total students. This is my 3rd year at this position. My previous experience is as a classroom teacher.

I am working on 23 Things to discover new technology, make myself take the time to try things, and to make new contacts. I spend some of my time trying to learn new technology and educate teachers and students in my building in the use of technology. I am always on the lookout for ways to use technology better and classroom application of technology.

I did not find Blogger difficult to use. I have a different blog that I had previously created using this same tool, and it literally does just take a few minutes to get started. The biggest problem I have is finding the time to update my blog. I also struggle a little with finding content that I feel is "worthy" of publishing on my blog.
